A 1000 kVA generator is the workhorse of large buildings, factories, hospitals and data centres. Before you compare quotations, it helps to know what a 1000 kVA generator specification should contain — and which numbers actually differ between offers.
What 1000 kVA means in kW
Generators are rated in kVA at a 0.8 power factor, so a 1000 kVA set delivers about 800 kW of real power. Working backwards, a 750 kW requirement needs roughly 940 kVA.
Check which rating the 1000 kVA refers to. A set rated 1000 kVA standby is typically about 900 kVA prime — fine for backing up the grid, but if the set will run every day, it is the prime rating that must cover the load. See prime vs standby.
1000 kVA generator specification: engine options
Several engines sit in this class. From our datasheets (50 Hz, 1500 rpm, 400/230 V, 3-phase):
| Model | Engine | Standby / prime (kVA) | Cylinders |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4U-P900 | Perkins 4008-TAG1 | 1000 / 900 | 8 in-line |
| 4U-P1000 | Perkins 4008-TAG2 | 1100 / 1000 | 8 in-line |
| 4U-C900 | Cummins KTA38-G2 | 1000 / 900 | V12 |
| 4U-C1000 | Cummins KTA38-G14 | 1100 / 1000 | V12 |
| 4U-C1000B | Cummins QST30-G4 | 1100 / 1000 | V12 |
If your load needs a full 1000 kVA prime, look at the sets rated around 1100 kVA standby.
Fuel consumption of a 1000 kVA generator
On the same datasheets, a 1000 kVA-class set burns roughly:
- about 145–170 litres per hour at 75% load
- about 195–220 litres per hour at full prime load
That is 3,500–4,000 litres a day at 75% load, so fuel storage and refuelling access matter as much as the set itself. Our generator fuel consumption chart covers every size.
Size and weight
- Open set: about 4.6–4.9 m long, 1.9–2.6 m wide and 2.2–2.7 m high, roughly 7.5–9 tonnes dry.
- Enclosed: the Cummins and Baudouin sets in this class usually come in a 20 ft container of about 13 tonnes; Perkins canopy sets are about 6–6.8 m long and 10.5 tonnes.
Plan the crane, the foundation, the access route and the exhaust and cooling-air paths early — they often decide which model fits.
1000 kVA diesel generator price: what decides it
There is no single price for a 1000 kVA generator. The quotation depends on:
- Engine make and origin
- Alternator make and frame size
- Enclosure: open, canopy or container
- Controller and breaker: AMF, synchronising controller, ACB
- Fuel: base tank only, or an external day tank
- Switching: ATS panel or synchronising panel
- Delivery, installation and commissioning
We explain each of these in generator prices in the UAE.
One 1000 kVA or two 500 kVA?
A single set is simpler and smaller. Two synchronised 500 kVA sets give redundancy and run more efficiently at part load, but need a synchronising panel. For 2000 kVA and above, parallel 1000 kVA sets are common — see our 2000 kVA generators.
